There is a deep-rooted connection between humans and water, in fact between all living things and water. Discussed is how much water there is on earth, where it is located, what is usable. The water cycle greatly determines climate, life and the ins and outs of peoples and cultures. Water quality directs its use. Tap water was and is an alternative to polluted surface water. Today, the world is awash in bottled water: largely nonsensical, unnecessary, environmentally damaging and expensive. How healthy is our drinking water? Advertising exhortations to vitalize water and turn it into "living water," framed with words such as primal water, life force, information (carrier), vibrational patterns, bioenergetic quality, crystal structure, hydrogen properties, energetic potential and memory raise doubts and demand clarification. We will discuss (sense and nonsense of) vitality and vitalizing water. What is water and how does it behave: differently than expected according to standard physical chemistry.

But water means much more than the grossly material molecule H2O. From time immemorial, there has been an indelible connection and esoteric or spiritual relationship with water. This has been fleshed out in many ways in myths, streams of wisdom and religions. Do cosmic laws underlie all existence and does water conform to them? That Harmony of Spheres seems to be determined mathematical patterns, reflected in water as an archetypal blueprint. Number symbolism offers unexpected revelations; similar patterns can be found, on the one hand, in historical monuments, in calculations of time, in extraordinary paintings, squares and buildings and, on the other hand, in water.
