Which Aqualine do you need?

In just a few minutes, you'll know which Aqualine best suits your needs

Why is a water filter necessary?

Compared to other countries, the Netherlands has relatively good tap water. Unfortunately, it is difficult for water utilities to remove all contaminants from rivers and polluted groundwater sources. With a water filter that has been tested and proven to remove these contaminants, you can filter out PFAS and residual contaminants from medications, pesticides, and heavy metals, among other things.

A water filter usually has the following features:

  • Removes harmful substances such as PFAS, GenX, pesticides, and heavy metals
  • Eliminates bacteria and viruses* for extra protection
  • Improves the taste by filtering out chlorine and other substances
  • Adds minerals (in certain models) for additional health benefits
  • It can revitalize water and make it alkaline, if desired

All Aqualine water filters remove bacteria. The Aqualine WP-100 also removes viruses.

With a water filter, you’re not only choosing filtered water, but also reducing plastic waste. You no longer need expensive bottled water, and you’re helping to create a more sustainable world.

Different types of water filters

At Tradeline, you'll find a wide selection of water filters, tailored to different needs and situations. Choose a filter that suits your household and usage situation:

  • Aqualine water filters: These 4-in-1 filter systems filter, mineralize, revitalize, and can make the water alkaline. They are available in glass and ABS models, including the Aqualine 5, 12, and 18. These systems do not require a water connection or drain and can be used in a kitchen, office, or medical office.
  • Water filters for the main water line: These filters are designed to be installed on your home’s main water line, filtering all incoming water. The Quadro 120 and 60 are examples of such filters.
  • Aqualine WP-100: a modern, compact filter with a sleek design for the kitchen countertop. It effectively removes contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, PFAS, pesticides, medications, heavy metals, and chemicals. The Aqualine WP-100 must be connected to the water supply line.
  • Under-sink water filters: These filters are perfect for household use and offer easy installation and effective filtration for filtered water straight from the tap.
  • Shower filters: specially designed to remove chlorine* and other impurities from shower water, leaving your skin and hair feeling softer.
  • Travel Filters: These filters are ideal for use on the go and while traveling. The portable filters allow you to filter water even when you're in different locations.

*Chlorine is not added to tap water in the Netherlands.

Specific filter technologies

Not all water filters work the same way. Many systems use a single filter and do not offer additional antibacterial protection. An Aqualine water filter combines multiple filtration techniques and offers triple antibacterial protection.

  • Ceramic pre-filter with 0.2-micron (0.0002 mm) pores. This filter blocks bacteria (including E. coli, which is frequently mentioned in the news), as well as sediment and hard, undissolved calcium and magnesium particles.
  • Multi-layer filter. This filter contains multiple layers of filter media:
    • Kuraray carbon (NSF/ANSI 42 certified) blended with silver-impregnated carbon to inhibit bacterial growth. Tests conducted by the University of Amsterdam show that PFAS are removed. In addition, this carbon removes a large amount of other contaminants, such as pharmaceutical residues, pesticides, heavy metals, and chlorine*
    • Zeolite beads. Environmentally friendly beads with a high adsorption capacity. They filter chlorine compounds, such as trihalomethane, and various heavy metals out of the water and soften it.
    • Silica and combination beads. The beads consist of a combination of various substances, including tourmaline, zeolite, and kaolin. They have a redox function and antibacterial properties.
    • Illite Combi Pellets
  • Elvan mineral stones. These stones naturally release 18 different minerals. Some of the stones are impregnated with silver to prevent bacterial growth in the stagnant water in the collection tank.
  • pH ring. This ring has nothing to do with filtering the water. The substance inside the ring raises the pH level of the filtered water by 1 to 1.5 pH units, resulting in slightly alkaline water.
  • Vitalizer. This is a separate component of the faucet. In this component, the water is swirled into a vortex, which vitalizes it.

The best water filter for the home

Which water filter is best for you depends on your needs and situation. Are you looking for a system that combines different steps, such as filtering, mineralizing, and vitalizing? If so, the Aqualine water filters are a good option. These 4-in-1 filter systems filter, mineralize, vitalize, and can make the water alkaline. Models such as the Aqualine 5, 12, and 18 are available in glass and ABS and offer a complete filtration solution for home use.

Are you looking for a compact solution for your countertop? Then the Aqualine WP-100 water filter is a good choice. If you want a filter that’s out of sight, under-sink filters or main-line filters—such as the Quadro and Aqua Logic filters—are good options. These connect directly to the water supply and provide filtered water straight from the tap.

Most Frequently Asked Questions

Many drinking water filters are easy to install yourself. For larger systems, such as a water purification unit connected to the main water line, it may be helpful to hire a professional installer.

A water filter helps remove residual contaminants from tap water and can improve the taste and quality of the water. Aqualine water filters can remove PFAS, bacteria, chemicals, microplastics, and medication residues from the water, among other things. Some filters also add minerals or can make the water alkaline.

A water filter uses various filter materials to remove unwanted substances from the water. This can be achieved using activated carbon, ceramic, or other advanced filtration technologies. Depending on the type of filter, substances such as chlorine*, pesticides, and heavy metals can be reduced, while essential minerals are retained.

*Chlorine is not added to tap water in the Netherlands.

Choosing a water filter depends on your needs and situation. There are systems for the countertop, under the faucet, for the main water line, and even for when you’re on the go. Some filters focus on thorough purification, while others add minerals or “vitalize” the water. Need advice? We’d be happy to help you choose the right filter.

In some countries, such as the Netherlands and Belgium, tap water is safe to drink, but it may still contain traces of undesirable substances. A water filter can help reduce these further, which can improve the taste and quality of the water. Some filters also add minerals, depending on the filtration system used.

Aqualine water filters are suitable for all types of drinking water. In countries outside the Netherlands, the filters will need to be replaced more frequently. This is due to the level of contamination and the presence of chlorine in the water. In cases of extremely hard water, an additional solution in the form of a water softener may be necessary. We do not sell water softeners.

Aqualine water filters remove the hard, undissolved calcium and magnesium from tap water. The dissolved calcium and magnesium simply pass through the filters, because they are not considered contaminants. Calcium and magnesium are important components of water; without them, the water would become too acidic.

Therefore, a small amount of dissolved calcium will always remain in the filtered water. Any calcium deposits can be removed, for example, with a cloth from a kettle. Water from an Aqualine water filter can also be used in coffee machines. If in doubt, contact the supplier of your coffee machine.

How often a filter needs to be replaced depends on the type and frequency of use. In general, filters should be replaced every 6 to 12 months to maintain optimal performance. Refer to your filter’s instructions for the exact replacement frequency.

Proper maintenance extends the life of your water filter and helps ensure the system works properly. This may include cleaning parts, replacing filters on time, and regularly cleaning the water reservoir. By properly maintaining your filter, it will continue to function optimally.

The price of a water filter depends on the model, the material of the collection tank, and whether you choose alkaline or pH-neutral water. Check out the different models on this page to see their prices.

Which Aqualine water filter is right for you?

All Aqualine water filtration systems work the same way.

  • Comprehensive filtration using various filters and different
    filter media.
  • Adding minerals and trace elements using Elvan mineral stones.
  • Vitalization of water during tapping (according to the Victor Schauberger principle)
  • If desired, the pH of the water can be raised to make it slightly alkaline.

All Aqualine water filters filter approximately 1.5 liters per hour. Because the water is filtered slowly
, the filter media can remove more contaminants from the water.

The flow rate of 1.5 liters per hour is an important factor to consider when making your choice. If you buy a water filter with a small tank capacity, you’ll have to refill it more often
compared to a larger water filter.

Another important factor to consider when making your choice is the size of the Aqualine water filter. Will the system fit in the spot you have in mind (for example, under a cabinet)? With the Aqualine 5, 12, and 18 models, the white base can be removed. This allows the tank that collects the water to be placed on a shelf or raised platform, for example.

The capacity of the collection tank (where the filtered water is collected) is based on an empty tank. This tank contains a multi-stage filter, mineral stones, and possibly a pH ring. Therefore, subtract 1.5 liters from the tank capacity to determine
how much water you can draw from the system at one time.

Which Aqualine is right for you?

Aqualine 5

  • Suitable for 1–2 people
  • The capacity of the empty tank is 5 liters
  • Perfect for drinking water and making coffee or tea

Aqualine 12

  • Suitable for 2–3 people
  • The empty tank has a capacity of 8 liters
  • Also suitable for 1–2 people who, in addition to drinking water, coffee, and tea, also want to use the water for cooking or simply want to have a bit more water on hand.

Aqualine 18

  • Suitable for 4 or more people
  • The capacity of the empty tank is 11.7 liters
  • Ideal for large households, a medical practice, or a small office

Aqualine Neos

  • Suitable for 4 or more people
  • The capacity of the empty tank is 9.8 liters
  • Ideal for large households, a medical practice, or a small office
  • Unique square design

Choosing the material

The Aqualine 5, 12, and Neos are available with either an ABS (plastic) or glass
sump tank. The Aqualine 18 is available only with a glass tank.

ABS and polypropylene are the two plastics known to be food-safe. They do not impart any taste. They also do not release BPA, BPS, BPF, BPFAF, BPAP, or any toxic substances.

The glass tanks are handcrafted in South Korea. This results in a price difference between the ABS and glass versions.

The material used does not affect the quality of the filtered water.

Choose between pH-neutral or alkaline (Redox)

By default, the water is adjusted to a pH of 7.2–7.4 after the filtration process.

Optionally, the water can be made slightly alkaline using the pH ring (for the Aqualine 5, 12, 18) or the Redox filter (for the Neos). This raises the pH level by 1–1.5 pH units. The water does not become alkaline immediately after filtering. The contents of the pH ring and the substances from the Redox filter need time to dissolve in the water. This process takes several hours.

People who lead a healthy lifestyle and do not take acid-forming medications
generally do not need alkaline water.

Alkaline water is not recommended for children under 4 years of age.
