GenX test report

Explanation of test results from the lab coordinator at the Free University of Amsterdam. The GenX * technology is used in producing the non-stick coating found in some pans. During production, 2 substances are formed namely FDR902 and 903. One is an ammonium salt and the other an acid. When these substances get into water they break down into a negatively and positively charged part (this also happens with salt; sodium and chloride). It is now only the negatively charged part that matters; this causes the toxicological effect and this is also the focus of the analysis. Thus, what is analyzed is a summation of both forms. The results are reported as an acid because our reference standard has the acid form and the value reported as the acid is equal to the value of only the negatively charged part. GenX, PFOS, PFOA fall under the Per- and PolyFluorAlkyl Substances (PFAS).
